Datadog’s observability and security platform sees quick expansion on Google Cloud Marketplace

Google LLC aims to provide organizations with all the machine learning and observability tools they need through Google Cloud Marketplace, based on a large network of independent software vendors or ISVs. 

Datadog Inc., which provides cloud monitoring and security as a service, has been one of Google Cloud’s most successful partnerships on this platform, supporting more than 35 software integrations into Google Cloud’s services.

“Whenever we talk to a customer about any kind of big migration or a transformation that they might be doing, the first thing that they want to know is how are they going to be able to monitor and observe these workloads so that they can do so safely,” said Stephen Orban (pictured, right), vice president of migrations, ISVs and marketplace, Google Cloud, at Google. “Datadog happens to be not just a leader in this [observability] space, but also a great partner runs really well on Google Cloud … they were the first observability partner to give transparency into Vertex. Now that AI workloads have become one of the most top of mind things for most CIOs and enterprises that we work with, they’re able to build AI applications with speed and confidence.”

They discussed how Datadog’s presence on Google Cloud Marketplace benefits customers and its focus on non-disruptive integration. (* Disclosure below.)

Supporting secure software integrations on Google Cloud

Google Cloud services large companies, including Home Depot, Goldman Sachs and Mayo Clinic, which creates a growing backlog of committed spend that customers can fulfill through consuming Google Cloud products or ISVs on Google Cloud Marketplace.

“We see more and more customers going to the Marketplace. This is where we see customers that actually do want to … simplify their procurement, simplify their legal processes, because they already have those agreements in place with Google and with the Marketplace,” Garnier said. “Combining Datadog and Google Cloud services spend together really help them go into those higher commitment tiers with the marketplace.”

Datadog offers cutting-edge observability and security solutions, with a focus on breaking down silos between different teams and organizations, according to Garnier. Datadog’s emphasis on DevSecOps collaboration is crucial to providing observability across all of a customer’s stack and enabling more effective troubleshooting.

“We really help our customers identify performance issues, security issues, being able to reduce that mean time to resolution, meantime to detections and get to the root cause of that,” Garnier said. “We bring that with some AI features and really making sure that we make the most value of all the different telemetry or different data you send to Datadog. As everybody knows, this is a very, very large kind of environment. So, breaking down those silos is even more critical because you have way more on that stack, way more complex. That’s where customers really need some solution like Datadog.”

Avoiding disruption and spurring innovation

Datadog’s complete observability solution includes measuring cost alongside performance so that companies know how much they are spending as they evolve. When migrating to a different cloud provider, customers are often worried about disruption, but Garnier cites Datadog’s work with Statsig Inc., which achieved 99.99% reliability after migrating to Google Cloud.

“From a cloud migration perspective, all the customers when they think about either migrating to the cloud or even sometime being able to … move from different cloud providers to another one, they want to make sure they have the entire solutions supported within their existing processes,” he said. “They use Datadog for [those] migrations, and that really helps them to have a seamless move. Being able to have th[ose] integrations and support with the [least] disruption they can on their services, on their applications and obviously on their businesses at the end.”

Datadog helps customers monitor performance during “spike days,” which could be a gaming company’s new release or Black Friday for a retailer. The company also fosters speedy innovation by allowing developers to launch new capabilities without risking security.

“As a customer launches new [Google Kubernetes Engine] clusters or launches new serverless functions or capabilities, Datadog automatically looks at it and can observe it,” affirmed Orban, adding that the teams from Google Cloud and Datadog have gotten very comfortable working together, further benefiting joint customers.

As both companies look toward the future of Google Cloud Marketplace, they are zeroed in on supporting customers who want to build AI applications quickly and easily. Datadog’s LLM Observability can easily monitor Google’s Gemini models to help ship their gen AI applications to production faster and with confidence. Its Vertex AI integration provides teams with an easy way to monitor, troubleshoot and optimize their Vertex AI deployed models.

“As we’ve added more and more capabilities for ISVs to find and reach our customers, we’re finding that actually customers migrate faster for when they buy from the right software company or the right ISV at the right time,” Orban said. “Consequently, our ISVs close larger deals faster and more often. At the same time to really be successful growing a marketplace business, it’s just like anything in life and business really. You get what you put into it.”
