Transforming data centers with AI-native networking: Keynote insights from the ‘Seize the AI Moment’ event

AI-native networking is revolutionizing the way data centers operate, driving significant advancements across a variety of sectors. The surge in artificial intelligence models and the extensive data required for training are pushing the boundaries of existing computing infrastructures.

This technological evolution brings about critical challenges, including the need to manage immense energy demands and optimize infrastructure for efficiency. As organizations navigate these complexities, they seek reliable partners to harness AI’s transformative potential. Juniper Networks Inc., with its cutting-edge AI-native networking platform, stands at the forefront of this transformative wave, offering solutions that promise to redefine data center operations in the AI era, according to Praveen Jain, senior vice president and general manager of AI clusters and cloud ready data center at Juniper Networks.

Praveen Jain, SVP and GM of AI clusters and cloud ready data center at Juniper Networks, talks to theCUBE about AI-native networking at Seize the AI Moment 2024.

TheCUBE’s John Furrier and Bob Laliberte on set with Juniper Networks’ Praveen Jain.

“With AI-native networking, Juniper introduced two concepts: AI for networking, networking for AI, delivering AI ops and AI data center networking to assure the best end-to-end operator and end-user experiences,” Jain said.

Jain spoke with theCUBE Research’s John Furrier and Bob Laliberte as a part of the kickoff for the Seize the AI Moment event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the upcoming event interviews with industry experts on how Juniper Networks’ AI-native networking is transforming data centers by managing energy demands, optimizing infrastructure and enhancing network management through AI integration. AI-native networking: Bridging the future

Juniper has various AI-native networking initiatives, according to Jain. The company’s approach involves leveraging AI to enhance network management and utilizing advanced networking technologies to support AI applications. This dual strategy underscores the importance of a strong infrastructure in meeting the demands of AI-driven workloads.

“With [Juniper’s] AI-native insights and automated actions, The Gap reduced their site visits by 85% and Dartmouth College reduced their time to deploy infrastructure by a factor of nine,” said Rami Rahim (pictured), chief executive officer of Juniper Networks, during the event keynote.

Hear from Rahim about how Juniper is working with businesses on their AI journey:

AI is having a transformative impact on technology and business. The massive scale of AI models, the exponential growth in data and the advanced computing infrastructure essential for AI advancements further highlights this, Rahim added.

“We’re living in the era of AI, and it is transforming all aspects of your technology and your business,” he said. “It feels like we’re seeing the future unfold before our eyes, and it’s incredibly exciting. The pace of advancement and growth in the three critical ingredients of AI is simply breathtaking.”

AI queries consume approximately 10 times the electricity of traditional internet searches, according to the Electric Power Research Institute. This surge in energy requirements necessitates innovative solutions to ensure sustainable growth in AI applications, Rahim explained.

“Our new PTX10002 leverages our own Express 5 silicon to achieve industry-leading performance and power efficiency for the AI data center spine and interconnect,” he said. “We’ve built innovative new congestion management features for AI into the industry’s most advance data center fabric management and automation solution, Apstra.”

Customer and ecosystem perspectives

Furrier, Laliberte and Jain also previewed the upcoming discussions between industry leaders, such as Manoj Leelanivas, chief operating officer of Juniper Networks, and Charlie Kawwas, president of Broadcom Inc. Additionally, Jain returns later in the event to host a panel featuring representatives from PayPal Holdings Inc., Deutsche Bank AG and Juniper’s partner ePlus Inc.

“We want to broaden that conversation, engaging with our ecosystem partners, industry leaders and customers to discuss [the] biggest challenges and opportunities organizations are facing with deploying their AI data centers,” Jain said.

Juniper’s AI-native networking platform exemplifies the transformative potential of AI in solving pressing IT challenges. With its comprehensive solutions, Juniper aims to lead the industry in optimizing AI data center infrastructure, ensuring that organizations can harness the full power of AI to drive business forward.
